Fred Williams was born and educated at Mentone, Victoria. He came
to Queensland in 1970 and, because of his love of the Australian
Wilderness, became intrigued with the beauty of Fraser Island.
Writing as a hobby first, he soon developed a consuming interest
in researching the history of this magnificent island, which led
to "written in Sand (1982).

Twenty years later Fred had completed researching another
amazing story about the management of dingoes on the mainland
and Fraser Island.
"The truth about about Fraser Island killer dingoes"
will be released in 2003. Also in 2002 a new title was added
"Princess K'Garis Fraser Island" a definitive history
was self published carrying a wealth of new photographs and
updated information. It took years to breathe life into one
character in the book Fred tracked down the grave location
of convict David Bracewell in Brisbane the result of an amazing
bloodhound search of persistence and devotion.
Bracewell, Fred believes, contributed far more to the rescue
of Eliza Fraser than we'll ever know.

Regretfully, most of his secrets went to the grave. Also
most of the old-timers that contributed one way or another
to the Fraser Island story have been intereviewed and many
have sadly passed away since but their story is now preserved
in print and will live on.
Fred loves Fraser Island and its dingoes and feels very strongly
about its management or lack of it.
Three very sound suggestions have been put about an International
Interactive Interpretative Dingo Educational Centre for the
Island and a proposal for a Multi-disciplinary Plan similar
to the one produced for Century Zinc along with many other
aspects of management.
Fred has on the basis of his lifetime devotion to these topics
submitted all three books he's authored on Fraser Island to
date towards a thesis and a degree with the University of
Southern Queensland Wide Bay.
